Cover Lust Friday: Zenith by Sasha Alsberg & Lindsay Cummings

Cover Lust Friday Logo

Cover Lust Friday is a weekly meme that's all about covers. Pick a cover that stands out to you, add your reason why you've chosen that particular one or what you like about it. Let's have fun with it and share the love for our favorite covers.

   The Cover:

ZENITH by Sasha Alsberg & Lindsay Cummings
Published: June 21st 2016 by Mirabel Inc.
Number of Pages: /
Series: Yes, #1 in The Andromeda Saga

Most know her as the Bloody Baroness, the captain of a fearsome glass starship called The Marauder. Androma and her crew strike terror in the hearts of those who cross them amongst the many corners of the Mirabel Galaxy.
When a routine mission goes rogue, the all-female crew is captured by a bounty hunter from Andi’s past and forced into a job that could, quite literally, start a war that will devour worlds.
Meanwhile, on the far side of the galaxy, the ruthless ruler Nor waits in the shadows of the planet Xen Ptera, biding her time. The final pieces are about to fall into place, liberating a plan that will tear Mirabel in two.
As the Marauder hurtles toward the unknown, there is one lesson that proves to be true: No one can be trusted in a galaxy that runs on lies and illusion.
From internet sensation Sasha Alsberg and multi-genre author Lindsay Cummings comes a new serialized space opera, full of action, intrigue, and steamy star-crossed romance. (goodreads.com)

   The Reason:

There's just something about this cover that is really appealing and mysterious, though it might not be the most elaborate and detailed one, but the details you can see look interesting. I like the font used for the title since it fits nicely against the background. And, the little logo type thing in silver above it looks really cool, making me wonder if it'll have some sort of deeper meaning in the book, or if it's just a nice design.
I really want to read this book and the cover is great!

   The Cover:

New World: Rising by Jennifer Wilson
Published: January 5th 2016 by Oftomes Publishing
Number of Pages: 350 pages (Paperback)
Series: Yes, #1 in the New World Trilogy

Since witnessing her parents' murders at the age of eleven, Phoenix's only purpose in life has been to uphold her mother's dying words- to be strong and survive. But surviving outside of The Walls- outside of The Sanctuary- is more like a drawn-out death sentence. A cruel and ruthless city, Tartarus is run by the Tribes whose motto is simple, "Join or die."
Refusing to join and determined to live, Phoenix fights to survive in this savage world. But who can she trust, when no one can be trusted? Not even herself. (goodreads.com)

   The Reason:

I really like this new cover. Green is my favorite color so that's already a big plus, but I'm also a really big fan of this foggy/misty thing this cover has going on, blending the panorama of the city with the title and the girl above it, bleeding into the white background. The designer really did an amazing job with this cover because it's definitely an eye-catcher, no questions asked!

And it is through this friendship that Ari and Dante will learn the most important truths about themselves and the kind of people they want to be. (goodreads.com)

   The Reason:

I love this cover and I love this book. There is just so much to love about this cover, be it the gorgeous font, the drawings around the words, the beautiful sky and the way the red of the truck really catches your eye. The second I first lay my eyes on the cover I was in love, still am and forever will be because this definitely is a wonderful example for a cover done more then right!

   The Reason:

This cover is absolutely gorgeous, 'nuf said.
No, but seriously, just look at it! I'm nota fan of fantasy and even I'm sitting over here like "I must have this book" even if only so I can have that cover standing on my shelf. Sure, never judge a book by its cover, but if the inside of the book is anything like the cover, color me intrigued! This cover is mysterious, intriguing and contains a tiny bit of an creepiness factor which makes it all even better, and that font in amazing. Whoever designed this cover, he or she did an outstanding job.

Cover Lust Friday: We Are the Ants by Shaun David Hutchinson

   The Cover:

We Are the Ants by Shaun David Hutchinson
Published: January 19th 2016 by Simon Pulse
Number of Pages: 464 Pages (Hardcover)
Series: No

There are a few things Henry Denton knows, and a few things he doesn’t.
Henry knows that his mom is struggling to keep the family together, and coping by chain-smoking cigarettes. He knows that his older brother is a college dropout with a pregnant girlfriend. He knows that he is slowly losing his grandmother to Alzheimer’s. And he knows that his boyfriend committed suicide last year.
What Henry doesn’t know is why the aliens chose to abduct him when he was thirteen, and he doesn’t know why they continue to steal him from his bed and take him aboard their ship. He doesn’t know why the world is going to end or why the aliens have offered him the opportunity to avert the impending disaster by pressing a big red button.
But they have. And they’ve only given him 144 days to make up his mind.
The question is whether Henry thinks the world is worth saving. That is, until he meets Diego Vega, an artist with a secret past who forces Henry to question his beliefs, his place in the universe, and whether any of it really matters. But before Henry can save the world, he’s got to figure out how to save himself, and the aliens haven’t given him a button for that. (goodreads.com)

   The Reason:

I think this cover is absolutely stunning. Sure, it might not be the most intricate one, but it's relative simplicity has something intriguing in it, the sky in vivid colors and the design of lines behind and around the title. This definitely is a eye catcher, not in the most classical and obvious way, but I think it's definitely a great one. It's one of those covers that I would definitely place face out on my shelf to showcase it.

I love the cover for Binge because it fits both the title and Tyler perfectly. It's colorful, eye-catching and fun. Finally, she’s scaling towers, fighting enemy soldiers, and serving her kingdom just as she’s always dreamed she would. But the mission doesn’t go as planned, and Meira soon finds herself thrust into a world of evil magic and dangerous politics – and ultimately comes to realize that her destiny is not, never has been, her own.    As you all know, I'm not the biggest fan of fantasy novels, simply because they are not my cup of tea and most of them are written in third person, which I don't like. But, the beauty of this cover made me disregard it all and I went and bought the book anyways, because look at it, it's a darn gorgeous cover. I like the contrast of winter and spring/summer that we see inside the charm (I know there is a more specific word for it in the book but I can't remember) surrounded by the ashes/snow on the lower half of the cover and the blurry background at the top.
I really like this cover, along with the cover for the sequel, Ice Like Fire. I've even taken a #CoverLustFriday picture of Snow Like Ashes nestled inside my fox SpiritHood for my Instagram which you can see here.

   The Reason:

For the last Christmas reads edition of Cover Lust Friday I'm going to talk about the gorgeous UK hardcover edition of My True Love Gave To Me.
I really like this cover, a lot more then the original US one to be honest, despite the fact, or maybe exactly because, it's much simpler. The cover doesn't come across as beautifully on the picture as it does in real life, especially since the actual book as pink edges on the pages and a golden bookmark. I love how well blue, gold and pink go together. Personally, I think we need more such covers that are subtle, simple, but amazing to look at. I usually don't read short story collections but I couldn't not get this one.
   Well done, cover designers!

   The Reason:

This is my favorite Christmas read.

A trio of today's bestselling authors - John Green, Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Myracle - bring all the magic of the holidays to life in three hilarious and charming interconnected tales of love, romance, and kisses that will steal your breath away. (goodreads.com)

   The Reason:

To start of the Christmas reads edition of Cover Lust Friday I'm here to talk about the cover of Let It Snow.
Quite obviously this isn't the original cover, or a cover that belongs to an english edition of Let It Snow. This is the Polish cover for Let It Snow, the one I have on my shelf, and I absolutely love this cover. It fits perfectly into stories set around christmas and winter. I love how the cover looks like it's been painted with water colors and is held in blues and pinks, simply perfect. You can really see that someone sat down and really thought about the cover and put in a lot of work to make it look like that.
All in all, bravo Polish publisher, great job, don't you think?

Cover Lust Friday: Romancing the Dark in the City of Light by Ann Jacobus

   The Cover:

Romancing the Dark in the City of Light by Ann Jacobus
Published: October 6th 2015 by A Thomas Dunne Book for St. Martin's Griffin
Number of Pages: 288 Pages (Hardcover)
Series: No

A troubled teen, living in Paris, is torn between two boys, one of whom encourages her to embrace life, while the other—dark, dangerous, and attractive—urges her to embrace her fatal flaws.
Haunting and beautifully written, with a sharp and distinctive voice that could belong only to this character, Romancing the Dark in the City of Light is an unforgettable young adult novel.
Summer Barnes just moved to Paris to repeat her senior year of high school. After being kicked out of four boarding schools, she has to get on the right track or she risks losing her hefty inheritance. Summer is convinced that meeting the right guy will solve everything. She meets two. Moony, a classmate, is recovering against all odds from a serious car accident, and he encourages Summer to embrace life despite how hard it can be to make it through even one day. But when Summer meets Kurt, a hot, mysterious older man who she just can't shake, he leads her through the creepy underbelly of the city-and way out of her depth.
When Summer's behavior manage to alienate everyone, even Moony, she's forced to decide if a life so difficult is worth living. With an ending that'll surprise even the most seasoned reader, Romancing the Dark in the City of Light is an unputdownable and utterly compelling novel. (goodreads.com)

   The Reason:

I really, really like this cover. Violet and pink are, surprisingly enough, two of my favorite colors, especially when mixed with black. The cover really reminds me of a evening, sunset sky over Paris, a very beautiful sight, that goes along really nicely with the white writing. The font is really nice and looks as if someone would have just written the words by hand onto the cover design, which is always really nice to see. I am a sucker for unique fonts on book covers.

   The Reason:

As you guys know I love this book. The story is gorgeous, tranquil and slow with beautifully crafted characters and scenes.
I think the cover is absolutely perfect for this novel. It perfectly mirrors the story through the subtle pink and violet hue, the snow and this sense of sadness that you get from it, even more through the lone figure sitting underneath the tree. The font fits great and stands out thanks to the white background. The cover is different and stands out from the masses of YA book covers. It immediately caught my attention when I first saw it.

Cover Lust Friday is a new weekly meme that's all about covers. Pick a cover that stands out to you, add your reason why you've chosen that particular one or what you like about it. Let's have fun with it and share the love for our favorite covers.

   The Cover:

Made You Up by Francesca Zappia
Published: May 19th 2015 by Greenwillow Books
Number of Pages: 428 Pages (Hardcover)
Series: No

Reality, it turns out, is often not what you perceive it to be—sometimes, there really is someone out to get you. Made You Up tells the story of Alex, a high school senior unable to tell the difference between real life and delusion. This is a compelling and provoking literary debut that will appeal to fans of Wes Anderson, Silver Linings Playbook, and Liar.
Alex fights a daily battle to figure out the difference between reality and delusion. Armed with a take-no-prisoners attitude, her camera, a Magic 8-Ball, and her only ally (her little sister), Alex wages a war against her schizophrenia, determined to stay sane long enough to get into college. She’s pretty optimistic about her chances until classes begin, and she runs into Miles. Didn't she imagine him? Before she knows it, Alex is making friends, going to parties, falling in love, and experiencing all the usual rites of passage for teenagers. But Alex is used to being crazy. She’s not prepared for normal.
Funny, provoking, and ultimately moving, this debut novel featuring the quintessential unreliable narrator will have readers turning the pages and trying to figure out what is real and what is made up. (goodreads.com)

   The Reason:

I love this cover, and the book it belongs to.
This cover truly looks like someone actually sat down and put a lot of thinking into what the cover should be like so it would mirror the story perfectly. I really like covers that look like they've been painted and, let's face it, the rain looks amazing! Alex, the protagonist and girl on the cover, looks really cool with that bit of red hair showing and that comfy looking sweater.
   This cover is perfect!

Killing Sarai by J.A. Redmerski
Published: June 18th 2013
Number of Pages: 396 Pages (Kindle Edition, 3rd edition)
Series: Yes, #1 in the In the Company of Killers Series
This is a book intended for mature audiences.

Sarai was only fourteen when her mother uprooted her to live in Mexico with a notorious drug lord. Over time she forgot what it was like to live a normal life, but she never let go of her hope to escape the compound where she has been held for the past nine years.
Victor is a cold-blooded assassin who, like Sarai, has known only death and violence since he was a young boy. When Victor arrives at the compound to collect details and payment for a hit, Sarai sees him as her only opportunity for escape. But things don’t go as planned and instead of finding transport back to Tucson, she finds herself free from one dangerous man and caught in the

clutches of another.

While on the run, Victor strays from his primal nature as he succumbs to his conscience and resolves to help Sarai. As they grow closer, he finds himself willing to risk everything to keep her alive; even his relationship with his devoted brother and liaison, Niklas, who now like everyone else wants Sarai dead.
As Victor and Sarai slowly build a trust, the differences between them seem to lessen, and an unlikely attraction intensifies. But Victor’s brutal skills and experience may not be enough in the end to save her, as the power she unknowingly holds over him may ultimately be what gets her killed. (goodreads.com)

   The Reason:

When I first stumbled upon this book a year or two ago I was immediately intrigued by the cover, the original one. I liked the fact that despite the picture actually being horizontal it had been turned vertical for the cover. It just had something that caught my attention, closely followed by the red hair and blood on the models hand.
I admit, after adding it to my 'to-read' pile on goodreads I kind of forgot about it until I stumbled upon it once more, but this time with the new cover. That's when I knew that it was definitely time to finally read it (here's my review in case you're interested). I love the new cover, how simple yet expressive it is, plus the blood really contrasts amazingly with the black and white aspect of the overall picture.
The font is awesome, and the fact that the two words are written in two different colors makes it only stand out more in my opinion.
Overall this cover is great. It immediately shows you want to expect from the story. It's intrigued and simple at first glance, though it's so much more.
