Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine in which we discuss our most anticipated upcoming releases.

   The book:

Everyone We've Been by Sarah Everett
Expected Publication: October 4th 2016 by Knopf Books for Young Readers
Number of Pages: 400 Pages (Hardcover)
Series: No

Addison Sullivan has been in an accident. In its aftermath, she has memory lapses and starts talking to a boy that no one else can see. It gets so bad that she’s worried she’s going crazy.
Addie takes drastic measures to fill in the blanks and visits a shadowy medical facility that promises to “help with your memory.” But at the clinic, Addie unwittingly discovers it is not her first visit. And when she presses, she finds out that she had certain memories erased. She had a boy erased.
But why? Who was that boy, and what happened that was too devastating to live with? And even if she gets the answers she’s looking for, will she ever be able to feel like a whole person again? (goodreads.com)

   My thoughts:

This book sounds absolutely fantastic and the cover is literally everything. I cannot wait to get my hands on it and read it up. I mean, a story about shadowy medical facilities that erase memories and the hunt to find our why a certain boy was erased from the main character's memories, what more could I want?

   My thoughts:

   The book:

Gemini by Sonya Mukherjee
Expected Publication: July 26th 2016 by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers

In a powerful and daring debut novel, Sonya Mukherjee shares the story of sisters Clara and Hailey, conjoined twins who are learning what it means to be truly extraordinary.
Seventeen-year-old conjoined twins, Clara and Hailey, have lived in the same small town their entire lives—no one stares at them anymore. But there are cracks in their quiet existence and they’re slowly becoming more apparent. Clara and Hailey are at a crossroads. Clara wants to stay close to home, avoid all attention, and study the night sky. Hailey wants to travel the world, learn from great artists, and dance with mysterious boys. As high school graduation approaches, each twin must untangle her dreams from her sister’s, and figure out what it means to be her own person.
Told in alternating perspectives, this unconventional coming-of-age tale shows how dreams can break your heart—but the love between sisters can mend it. (goodreads.com)

   My thoughts:

The second I've laid eyes on this book and read it's blurb I knew I want this and I want it really, really badly. I've never read a book about conjoined twins, never even heard of one, so color me extremely intrigued. I cannot wait to see how the story will play out and just everything about it, the life these twins live and how life looks like through their eyes.
And also, that cover is absolutely gorgeous and I can't wait to have it standing on my shelf!

Waiting on Wednesday: The Geek's Guide to Unrequited Love by Sarvenaz Tash

Mittwoch, 10. Februar 2016

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine in which we discuss our most anticipated upcoming releases.

   The book:

The Geek's Guide to Unrequited Love
by Sarvenaz Tash

Expected Publication: June 14th 2016 by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers
Number of Pages: 256 Pages (Hardcover)
Series: No

John Hughes meets Comic Con in this hilarious, unabashedly romantic, coming-of-age novel about a teenager who is trying to get his best friend to fall in love with him from the author of Three Day Summer.
   Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy...
   Archie and Veronica...
   Althena and Noth...
   ...Graham and Roxy?
Graham met his best friend, Roxana, when he moved into her neighborhood eight years ago, and she asked him which Hogwarts house he’d be sorted into. Graham has been in love with her ever since.
But now they’re sixteen, still neighbors, still best friends. And Graham and Roxy share more than ever—moving on from their Harry Potter obsession to a serious love of comic books.
When Graham learns that the creator of their favorite comic, The Chronicles of Althena, is making a rare appearance at this year’s New York Comic Con, he knows he must score tickets. And the event inspires Graham to come up with the perfect plan to tell Roxy how he really feels about her. He’s got three days to woo his best friend at the coolest, kookiest con full of superheroes and supervillains. But no one at a comic book convention is who they appear to be...even Roxy. And Graham is starting to realize fictional love stories are way less complicated than real-life ones. (goodreads.com)

   My thoughts:

This book just sounds like one heck of a lot of fun, lols and giggles if you ask me! I mean there's comic books, comic con, neediness and a boy who tries to woo his best friend using the former? Sign me up asap. Something like that, teens who love comic books and are nerdy, this sounds like a book inspired by life, unlike some books where teens are 50 year old philosophers with degrees and everything. I cannot wait to get my hand on this because I'm sure it'll be a blast!

Waiting om Wednesday: Wanderlost by Jen Malone

Mittwoch, 3. Februar 2016

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine in which we discuss our most anticipated upcoming releases.

   The book:

Wanderlost by Jen Malone
Expected Publication: May 31st 2016 by HarperTeen
Number of Pages: 352 Pages (Hardcover)
Series: No

Seventeen-year-old Aubree has always idolized her adventurous older sister, even while utterly content to track Elizabeth’s antics from the cozy comforts of home, in the tender care of doting parents. So when Elizabeth gets herself in "a touch of trouble” and, for the first time ever, actually needs Aubree's help, Bree is flattered but insistent.
There’s no way she can do what Elizabeth is asking. Impersonate her recent-college-grad sis all summer, just so Elizabeth can score the recommendation she needs to land her dream position? Nope, nope, not gonna happen.
ESPECIALLY when Elizabeth’s summer job is leading a bus tour.
   A bus tour across Europe.
A senior citizens' bus tour across Europe.
And that's even before Bree finds out that the tour owner’s super-cute son (who is decidedly NOT elderly) will be a last-minute addition.
Bree would have to be crazy. Or would she? (goodreads.com)

   My thoughts:

This story sounds a little far fetched but the whole Europe and travel aspect has me intrigued. I love YA stories that play outside of the US or England, since those two are the most common ones. Besides that, as someone who's traveled across Europe herself, I'm curious to see how well that aspect is executed.

If I Was Your Girl is a universal story about feeling different--and a love story that everyone will root for. (goodreads.com)

   My thoughts:

This is a story about a transgender girl featuring a transgender girl on the cover - count me in!
I am so excited about this book, seriously, May cannot come quick enough. This story sounds amazing in so many ways, especially because it deals with being transgender and what that means for you in society, making this book one of my beloved hard topic ones, so of course I had to find my way to it sooner or later. I cannot wait to read it, hoping that it will be all sorts of brilliant. We need more such stories, more diversity.

Waiting on Wednesday: The Weight of Zero by Karen Fortunati

Mittwoch, 20. Januar 2016

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine in which we discuss our most anticipated upcoming releases.

   The book:

The Weight of Zero by Karen Fortunati
Expected Publication: September 6th 2016 by Delacorte Press
Number of Pages: 400 Pages (Hardcover)
Series: No

Seventeen-year-old Cath knows Zero is coming for her. Zero, the devastating depression born of Catherine’s bipolar disease, has almost triumphed once, propelling Catherine to her first suicide attempt. With Zero only temporarily restrained by the latest med du jour, time is running out. In an old ballet shoebox, Catherine stockpiles meds, preparing to take her own life when Zero next arrives.
But Zero’s return is delayed. Unexpected relationships along with the care of a new psychiatrist start to alter Catherine's perception of her diagnosis. But will this be enough? This is a story of loss and grief and hope and how the many shapes of love – maternal, romantic and platonic – impact a young woman’s struggle with mental illness. (goodreads.com)

   My thoughts:

When I saw a tweet about this book I immediately knew that yes, this is definitely something I'm interested in. In true Alice fashion this is a hard topic book dealing with depression and bipolar disorder, which, let's face it, screams my name. You know how dear books with hard topics are to my heart so of course I want this book asap. Because I'm me, I've already contacted the author for an interview and everything because I'm intrigued as heck by this book. Mental illnesses are definitely something we need to discuss more in our society, meaning that YA books about them are incredibly valuable, in my opinion, so September can't come quick enough for me so I can read this!
I so wouldn't mind getting an ARC of it, just saying... ;)

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine in which we discuss our most anticipated upcoming releases.

   The book:

How to Keep Rolling After a Fall by Karole Cozzo
Expected Publication: August 2nd 2016 by Swoon Reads
Number of Pages: 256 Pages (Paperback)
Series: No

The party was at her house. The photos were posted to her Facebook account. That's all the evidence anyone needed to condemn Nikki Baylor for a cyberbullying incident that humiliated a classmate and nearly resulted in the girl's suicide. Now Nikki's been expelled from her old school, her friends have abandoned her, and even her own parents can't look her in the eye. With her plans for the future all but destroyed, Nikki resigns herself to being the girl everyone hates - almost as much as she hates herself. But then Nikki meets Pax, a spirited wheelchair rugby player who knows what it's like when one mistake completely shatters your life. Refusing to judge her because of her past, he shows her that everyone deserves a second chance... and everyone deserves to be loved. (goodreads.com)

   My thoughts:

Basically, everything, and I mean literally everything, about this book screams ALICE MUST READ THIS ASAP. I'm not exaggerating, not at all. I mean, a former mean girl and a wheelchair bound rugby player, hello, I want, now. I've never even seen a book with a wheelchair bound character as lead so that in itself is amazing! We need more such stories.
All in all this sounds like a brilliant story that I cannot wait to get my hands on as quickly as only possible. Also, look at that gorgeous cover! Totally wouldn't mind if Swoon Reads would send me an (e)ARC, not at all...! So, I need this story in my life, can't wait until August!

Waiting on Wednesday: Mirror in the Sky by Aditi Khorana

Mittwoch, 6. Januar 2016

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine in which we discuss our most anticipated upcoming releases.

   The book:

Mirror in the Sky by Aditi Khorana
Expected Publication: June 21st 2016 by Razorbill
Number of Pages: 352 Pages (Hardcover)
Series: No

For Tara Krishnan, navigating Brierly, the academically rigorous prep school she attends on scholarship, feels overwhelming and impossible. Her junior year begins in the wake of a startling discovery: A message from an alternate Earth, light years away, is intercepted by NASA. This means that on another planet, there is another version of Tara, a Tara who could be living better, burning brighter, because of tiny differences in her choices.
The world lights up with the knowledge of Terra Nova, the mirror planet, and Tara’s life on Earth begins to change. At first, small shifts happen, like attention from Nick Osterman, the most popular guy at Brierly, and her mother playing hooky from work to watch the news all day. But eventually those small shifts swell, the discovery of Terra Nova like a black hole, bending all the light around it.
As a new era of scientific history dawns and Tara's life at Brierly continues its orbit, only one thing is clear: Nothing on Earth--and for Tara--will ever be the same again. (goodreads.com)

   My thoughts:

I don't know about you but I think this book sounds really interesting, even though the blurb sounds just a little bit all over the place. I love sci-fi and the idea of a second Earth being discovered, well, that sounds really cool. I'm all for everything that has to do with space, the NASA, new planets and good writing. Besides, the cover also looks really nice. I  look forward to this one, and dearly hope it won't disappoint.

Waiting on Wednesday: Enter Title Here by Rahul Kanakia (Blogmas Day #23)

Mittwoch, 23. Dezember 2015

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine in which we discuss our most anticipated upcoming releases.

   The book:

Enter Title Here by Rahul Kanakia
Expected Publication: August 2nd 2016 by Disney-Hyperion
Number of Pages: 352 Pages (Hardcover)
Series: No

I’m your protagonist—Reshma Kapoor—and if you have the free time to read this book, then you’re probably nothing like me.
Reshma is a college counselor’s dream. She’s the top-ranked senior at her ultra-competitive Silicon Valley high school, with a spotless academic record and a long roster of extracurriculars. But there are plenty of perfect students in the country, and if Reshma wants to get into Stanford, and into med school after that, she needs the hook to beat them all.
What's a habitual over-achiever to do? Land herself a literary agent, of course. Which is exactly what Reshma does after agent Linda Montrose spots an article she wrote for Huffington Post. Linda wants to represent Reshma, and, with her new agent's help scoring a book deal, Reshma knows she’ll finally have the key to Stanford.
But she’s convinced no one would want to read a novel about a study machine like her. To make herself a more relatable protagonist, she must start doing all the regular American girl stuff she normally ignores. For starters, she has to make a friend, then get a boyfriend. And she's already planned the perfect ending: after struggling for three hundred pages with her own perfectionism, Reshma will learn that meaningful relationships can be more important than success—a character arc librarians and critics alike will enjoy.
Of course, even with a mastermind like Reshma in charge, things can’t always go as planned. And when the valedictorian spot begins to slip from her grasp, she’ll have to decide just how far she’ll go for that satisfying ending. (Note: It’s pretty far.)
In this wholly unique, wickedly funny debut novel, Rahul Kanakia consciously uses the rules of storytelling—and then breaks them to pieces. (goodreads.com)

   My thoughts:

   This good sounds amazing!
What is less amazing is the fact that it comes out August 2016 because I really, really want to read it. (Hey Disney-Hyperion, how about an ARC? Pretty please?) What truly caught my attention is the fact that this is a story about a girl deciding to get herself a literary agent to make herself stand out among the perfect Stanford applicants, which reminds me of me back in high school, wanting nothing more then an agent, though I didn't dream of Stanford. Furthermore, the final line of the blurb makes the entire thing even more interesting because I really want to know in what way the author breaks the rules of story telling and I want to know how exactly this story is told.
All in all I really want to read this book and cannot wait for it to come out, even though the latter is more then half a year away.

But what Solara and Doran discover on the mysterious Planet X has the power to not only alter their lives, but the existence of everyone in the universe...(goodreads.com)

   My thoughts:

This book has space, far away planets and is sci-fi, what more could I wish for?
The first time I ever saw this book I knew I have to have it because the cover is awesome and the blurb sounds really intriguing. I'm a sucker for good YA sci-fi novels with just a dash of romance and truly high stakes so I have a lot of hope for this one, even more since a reviewer I trust gave it 5 stars. So, Disney-Hyperion, if you want to hook me up with am ARC I'm all for it!

Waiting on Wednesday: Love Blind by Christa Desir & Jolene Perry (Blogmas Day #9)

Mittwoch, 9. Dezember 2015

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine in which we discuss our most anticipated upcoming releases.

   The book:

Love Blind by Christa Desir & Jolene Perry
Expected Publication: May 10th 2016 by Simon Pulse
Number of Pages:  320 Pages (Hardcover)
Series: No

It starts with a list of fears. Stupid things really. Things that Hailey shouldn't worry about, wouldn’t worry about if she didn’t wake up every morning with the world a little more blurry. Unable to see her two moms clearly. Unable to read the music for her guitar. One step closer to losing the things she cares about the most.
For a while, the only thing that keeps Hailey moving forward is the feeling she gets when she crosses something off the list.
Then she meets Kyle. He mumbles—when he talks at all—and listens to music to drown out his thoughts. He’s loaded down with fears, too. So Hailey talks him into making his own list.
Together, they stumble into an odd friendship, helping each other tackle one after another of their biggest fears. But fate and timing can change everything. And sometimes facing your worst fear makes you realize you had nothing to lose after all. (goodreads.com)

   My thoughts:

I want this book and I want it now, come on May, hurry up!
I don't know about you but I've never read a book about a character slowly going blind before so that already sounds truly intriguing to me. Also, a list of fears that Hailey wants to tackle before everything goes dark? That sounds brave, probably braver then I would be so I really can't wait to see how that plays out in the story. I also really like the simplicity of the cover which makes it stand out for entirely different reasons then those book covers filled with colors and faces, you know which ones I mean.
All in all I'm really excited for this one and cannot wait to read it!

Series:  Yes, #1 the Passenger Trilogy/Series (?)

   passage, n.
   i. A brief section of music composed of a series of notes and flourishes.
ii. A journey by water; a voyage.
iii. The transition from one place to another, across space and time.
In one devastating night, violin prodigy Etta Spencer loses everything she knows and loves. Thrust into an unfamiliar world by a stranger with a dangerous agenda, Etta is certain of only one thing: she has traveled not just miles but years from home. And she’s inherited a legacy she knows nothing about from a family whose existence she’s never heard of. Until now.
Nicholas Carter is content with his life at sea, free from the Ironwoods—a powerful family in the colonies—and the servitude he’s known at their hands. But with the arrival of an unusual passenger on his ship comes the insistent pull of the past that he can’t escape and the family that won’t let him go so easily. Now the Ironwoods are searching for a stolen object of untold value, one they believe only Etta, Nicholas’ passenger, can find. In order to protect her, he must ensure she brings it back to them— whether she wants to or not.
Together, Etta and Nicholas embark on a perilous journey across centuries and continents, piecing together clues left behind by the traveler who will do anything to keep the object out of the Ironwoods’ grasp. But as they get closer to the truth of their search, and the deadly game the Ironwoods are playing, treacherous forces threaten to separate Etta not only from Nicholas but from her path home . . . forever. (goodreads.com)

   My thoughts:

Let me start off my saying that I've not read Alexandra Bracken's The Darknest Minds trilogy. I tried but I really couldn't get into it at all, which is a shame, but this book sounds really intriguing! I definitely want to give Ms. Backen another chance and I really hope Passenger will be good. Just look at that cover, it's absolutely gorgeous so I think I will get this book even if only to have that beauty on my shelf. Usually time travel isn't really my cup of tea but this time it sounds really interesting.

That is, until the Z virus hits, wiping out a third of the population in a matter of weeks. If that weren’t frightening enough, the bodies of the victims disappear and suddenly reappear, awakened from their dead state. They're faster, smarter, and they work together to get the one thing they crave, human flesh.

Waiting on Wednesday: The Last Star by Rick Yancey

Mittwoch, 18. November 2015

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine in which we discuss our most anticipated upcoming releases.

   The book:

The Last Star by Rick Yancey
Expected Publication: May 24th 2016 by G.P. Putnam's Sons Books for Young Readers
Number of Pages: 464 Pages (Hardcover)
Series: Yes, #3 in the The 5th Wave Trilogy

We’re here, then we’re gone, and that was true before they came. That’s always been true. The Others didn’t invent death; they just perfected it. Gave death a face to put back in our face, because they knew that was the only way to crush us. It won’t end on any continent or ocean, no mountain or plain, jungle or desert. It will end where it began, where it had been from the beginning, on the battlefield of the last beating human heart.
Master storyteller Rick Yancey invokes triumph, loss, and unrelenting action as the fate of the planet is decided in the conclusion to this epic series. (goodreads.com)

   My thoughts:

As you guys know I LOVED The 5th Wave and couldn't shut up about it. I anxiously awaited The Infinite Sea, which wasn't really what I had expected, but I have lots of faith in Rick Yancey's abilities as writer and storyteller to wrap this trilogy up with a grand finale.
One thing that makes me happy is that there have not been any unnecessary cover changes yet and I hope it'll stay that way because all three covers are perfect. I cannot wait to have all three standing on my shelf. Unfortunately for me, and lots of other people who are waiting for this book, it isn't coming out until May 2016.    When Margot disappears, a desperate Lucy has no choice but to put her faith in the True Borns, led by the charismatic Nolan Storm and the beautiful but deadly Jared Price. As Lucy and the True Borns set out to rescue her sister, they stumble upon a vast conspiracy stretching from Dominion’s street preachers to shady Russian tycoons. But why target the Fox sisters?
As they say in Dominion, it’s in the blood. (goodreads.com)

   My thoughts:

   This book sounds amazing!
I love this type of books where some kind of plague diminished the populations or some kind of virus, and the story set in the world trying to survive the aftermath of it all. Awesome, sign me up asap. The idea of identical twins and one of them having to find the other twin that disappeared sounds intriguing. Besides that I'm curious who there True Borns are and how everything will play together and the story go.
And let's face it, the cover is absolutely gorgeous, even though it's relatively simple, but I think that's the beauty of it. It definitely caught my eye when I saw its reveal on twitter some time ago.
Can May 2016 please hurry up?

Mittwoch, 28. Oktober 2015

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine in which we discuss our most anticipated upcoming releases.

   The book:

Shade me by Jennifer Brown
Expected Publication: January 19th 2016 by Katherine Tegen Books
Number of Pages: 448 Pages (Hardcover)
Series: Yes, #1 in the Nikki Kill Series (?)

Nikki Kill does not see the world like everyone else. In her eyes, happiness is pink, sadness is a mixture of brown and green, and lies are gray. Thanks to a rare phenomenon called synesthesia, Nikki’s senses overlap, in a way that both comforts and overwhelms her.
Always an outsider, just one ‘D’ shy of flunking out, Nikki’s life is on the fast track to nowhere until the night a mysterious call lights her phone up bright orange—the color of emergencies. It’s the local hospital. They need Nikki to identify a Jane Doe who is barely hanging on to life after a horrible attack.
The victim is Peyton Hollis, a popular girl from Nikki’s school who Nikki hardly knows. One thing is clear: Someone wants Peyton dead. But why? And why was Nikki’s cell the only number in Peyton’s phone?
As she tries to decipher the strange kaleidoscope of clues, Nikki finds herself thrust into the dark, glittering world of the ultra-rich Hollis family, and drawn towards Peyton’s handsome, never-do-well older brother Dru. While Nikki’s colors seem to help her unravel the puzzle, what she can’t see is that she may be falling into a trap. The only truth she can be sure of is that death is a deep, pulsing crimson.    My thoughts:

This book sounds amazing and so unique. The idea of seeing emotions as colors was definitely the first thing that caught my attention about this book because I've never seen it in a book before. The fact that it's a suspense one only made me want to have it more, probably like yesterday, since I have an undying love for all things suspense/thriller.
The cover is so pretty, even though it's relatively simple, so maybe that's why it stood out to be. The font looks really unique and eye-catching. The tagline beneath the title is on point: White lies never fade to black. Yes!
All in all it sounds like a fascinating read that I cannot wait to get my hands on. I wish I could get an ARC for it but the chances are unfortunately rather slim so I'll have to wait until January along with you guys.

   My thoughts:

Last year I've read and loved Faking Normal by Courtney C. Stevens, even though it wasn't an easy story, so I immediately knew that I would read any and all books she's going to put out. The Lies About Truth sounds amazing and the cover is stunning so I cannot wait to finally read it and see it standing on my shelf. Courtney is an amazing author so I'm positive that this book will be just as good as Faking Normal.

   The book:

Underneath Everything by Marcy Beller Paul Cover
Underneath Everything by Marcy Beller Paul
Expected Publication: October 27th 2015 by Balzer + Bray
Number of Pages: 304 Pages (Hardcover)
Series: No

Underneath Everything is a seductive, gorgeously written debut about two girls bound by an obsessive and toxic friendship, perfect for fans of Lauren Oliver and Courtney Summers.
Mattie shouldn't be at the bonfire. She should be finding new maps for her collection, hanging out with Kris, and steering clear of almost everyone else, especially Jolene. After all, Mattie and Kris dropped off the social scene the summer after sophomore year for a reason. But now Mattie is a senior, and she's sick of missing things. So here she is. And there's Jolene: Beautiful. Captivating. Just like the stories she wove. Mattie would know—she used to star in them. She and Jolene were best friends. Mattie has the scar on her palm to prove it, and Jolene has everything else, including Hudson.
But when Mattie runs into Hudson and gets a glimpse of what could have been, she decides to take it all back: the boyfriend, the friends, the life she was supposed to live. Problem is, Mattie can't figure out where Jolene's life ends and hers begins. Because there's something Mattie hasn't told anyone: She walked away from Jolene over a year ago, but she never really left. (goodreads.com)

   My thoughts:

This book sounds absolutely amazing. I mean, a toxic friendship and an LGBTQ undercurrent, what more could you ask for? The cover is also really pretty, nice and simple with a interesting light blue font. I cannot wait to dive into this one, especially since I've had my eye on it for months now. Can it be October 27th already? Please?
